Acting Classes During Coronavirus
Posted: April 1st, 2020
2020 has definitely been the year of discovering the new normal. During the month of March, nearly everything shut down in Los Angeles, forcing everyone to accept the "new normal" of working completely online from home. This included both of the acting classes that I was taking at the time, which usually took place in a studio. Moving my on-camera (Margie Haber Acting Studio) and scene study (Cameron Watson Acting Studio) classes online was unknown territory for both the students and the teachers. It was incredibly daunting trying to understand how we would be able to create and study theatre through platforms like Zoom, however, both of my teachers were up for the challenge and ready to experiment and create. I have been taking both classes on and off since April and am so grateful for the insight I have gained through this experience. For example, since many auditions were moved online, the need to practice self-taping was essential. Both classes changed their curriculum to teach students how to self-tape properly and how to carry a scene with a partner through Zoom. Many theatres and industry professionals were inspired by the work that we were doing in my Saturday Acting class with Cameron Watson, despite being stuck in quarantine. Throughout this uncertain time, it became clear how important it is, now more than ever, to continue making art and practicing this craft. I am excited to see what the next couple months hold!
